Data Migration—The Next Generation
by Jack Hastings
July 1, 2006
Once datasets are defined and allocated on target volumes, they are asynchronously copied to the target volumes, changed tracks are copied from source to target, all I/O writes to source Extents are mirrored to its corresponding target Extent, Catalog and VTOC, VTOCIX, VVDS entries are dynamically modified, and I/O is translated to the target.
Notable benefits of Softek LDMF include:
- Maintaining application availability during dataset level migrations
- Merging multiple small capacity volumes onto fewer large capacity volumes
- Improving application performance via load balancing I/O activity across volumes
- Moving datasets between any storage vendor hardware
- Enabling continued growth of important or new applications
- Reducing storage TCO
- Proactive and immediate response to unanticipated data set growth requirements.
Successful “enterprise”-level migrations can truly benefit from the combination of Softek TDMF and Softek LDMF. By deploying both tools, your data center will operate more efficiently. Z
