We recently surveyed z/Journal and Mainframe Executive readers to try to get a feel for the level of new workload growth on the IBM mainframe. Based on anecdotal evidence we have been picking up from readers we visited with at SHARE, via email correspondence, from case studies we’ve published, etc. — we sensed that new workload growth was taking place at a substantial clip. We wanted to know if in fact our hunch was correct and we wanted to know why. We sent our survey to 5,000 randomly selected readers; 166 qualified respondents completed the survey.
Several conclusions jumped out quickly: The mainframe is growing and has been for the last three years and it’s growing across multiple industries. In addition, it became obvious that the mainframe’s technical benefits are driving the new workload growth trend. Naturally, z/OS and DB2 are the primary recipients of this growth; but the biggest surprise was Linux on System z.
To learn more about the survey results and how to control the explosive new workload growth on the IBM mainframe I encourage you to register now to attend the BMC Software Webinar on this topic this coming Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 11:00 CST. I will be a participant in the Webinar along with BMC’s Mike Moser (Product Management Director) and Neil Blagrave (MAINVIEW Product Manager).
