Mainframe Trivia Contest #9
April 7, 2009

The Mainframe Trivia Contest #8 is now over. Vern Watts is generally considered to be the “father of IMS” because of his work in leading a collaborative effort on a NASA project that included IBM, Rockwell, and Caterpillar.

Coincidentally, just yesterday I was notified by Roger Miller (well known IBM DB2 guru), that Vern Watts passed away this past weekend at 77 years of age. True to form, he was hard at work last week.

The winners of a mainframe T-shirt for correctly answering the Mainframe Trivia Contest #8 question are:

  • Patricia Zimmerman, Wisconsin Dept. of Administration, Madison, Wisconsin
  • Steve Baugh, Anpac, Springfield, Missouri
  • Chris Bray, Experian, Moreno Union, California

Mainframe Trivia Contest #9

Which company was the first to provide plug-compatible products for the System/360 mainframe?

·         Telex

·         Memorex

·         Amdahl

·         Storage Technology

(I will randomly select three winners of this Mainframe Trivia Contest #9 who will receive the T-shirt pictured below. To participate, either answer via a Comment to this post - it will not be made public for others to see - or send me an Email to bob@mainframezone.com with Mainframe Trivia Contest #9 in the Subject line. Don’t forget to state your T-shirt size.)
